Sneak Peek: 2025 VW Jetta GLI

Sneak Peek: 2025 VW Jetta GLI

The Volkswagen Jetta GLI sport sedan is gearing up for an exciting update in 2025, with a big reveal set for June 25. The teaser image, although not revealing much, showcases a plastic grille featuring an embossed Easter egg that reads “Let’s Go!”—a fun and dynamic touch aimed at capturing the attention of driving enthusiasts. There's also a glimpse of the GLI's signature red accent trim, confirming this is the sportier GLI model, promising a thrilling ride.

When most people think of Volkswagen, iconic models like the hot hatch Golf GTI or Golf R, the versatile Bus (soon returning as the all-electric ID Buzz), or the legendary Beetle (which is no longer produced) come to mind. However, the Jetta, a solid and affordable sedan, is equally deserving of recognition. Volkswagen continues to innovate and keep the Jetta fresh, and the upcoming updates are a testament to this commitment.

In fact, the 2024 Jetta is one of the most underrated cars we've driven this year. Described as “a simple slice of plain cheese” in the best possible way, the Jetta proves that simplicity and reliability can still deliver an exceptional driving experience. The Jetta is a compact four-door that consistently delivers, and Volkswagen's dedication to enhancing this model is commendable.

For the 2025 model, we're anticipating exciting updates, including an exterior styling refresh and a potential increase in horsepower for both the base and GLI models. The 2024 Jetta already impresses with 158 horsepower, while the GLI’s 2.0-liter EA888 engine delivers a powerful 228 horsepower.

While 158 horses are commendable for a base model small sedan (especially with a turbocharged motor), there's always room for more excitement. The GLI is expected to continue offering a thrilling ride, possibly even surpassing the impressive 228 horsepower mark. The Jetta lineup also retains its manual transmission options, giving it a unique edge within the VW family as one of the few stick-shift vehicles available.

Volkswagen is poised to make the Jetta an even more exciting and dynamic choice. Stay tuned for more details on Tuesday, June 25. The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI, going on sale late this fall, will compete confidently with the newly revised (and hybridized) Honda Civic, along with the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, and the all-new Kia K4.

The future looks bright for the Jetta and Jetta GLI, promising enhanced performance, fresh design, and continued driving pleasure.
